Just a reminder that 2015 annual memberships are due for the American Kiteboarding Association.
With Foil Gold Cup and Formula Worlds approaching valid membership is required to qualify for IKA points and to compete in IKA sanctioned events.
AKA membership supports kiteboard racing in the United States and in North America. The AKA has been instrumental in obtaining IKA points at regattas in the US, Mexico, and Canada. Along with the West Coast Tour the AKA has organized the host venues of the North Americans and US Nationals. These efforts are important for your world ranking as it relates to qualifying for the Worlds.
The AKA has a seat on the International Kiteboarding Association executive board as well as a delegate at the IKA Annual Meeting. Over the past few years the AKA has put forward more rule amendments than any other association in the world.
Your membership in the AKA supports:
- North American regatta scheduling efforts and IKA points allocations
- The West Coast Tour
- Sponsorship efforts which bring live video and photographs to AKA events
- More Raceboard and Foilboard Events like “Ripping the Rio”
Most of your membership supports AKA representation at the IKA Annual General Meeting. The meeting is typically held in Europe. Each year we must send one representative which requires flight and lodging costs. With one AKA representative and our US-based IKA rep our voice is in the room is strong and can effectively steer international kiteboard racing in the right direction.

Day 1 of the Kites and Big Cats Regatta is under way. The race course saw consistent breeze all day, building slowly from 16 to 24 knots. Top five riders battled it out with lead changes and tight starts. A strong international continguent showed up to compete and lots of America’s Cup spectators were treated to some epic kite racing. More tomorrow!
